Sci-fi legend Neal Stephenson’s Lamina1 is entering the Ethereum ecosystem in a big way. The team has partnered with Consensys’ Linea to launch Spaces, a platform that brings creator-owned media and interactive storytelling to the Ethereum Layer-2 network.
The collaboration is designed to give artists, writers, and developers full control over intellectual property rights while engaging fans directly—removing the need for intermediaries and central platforms.

Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin, who also serves as Consensys CEO, invested in Lamina1 alongside Systemic Ventures. Lubin highlighted the partnership’s potential for on-chain content creation, noting Stephenson’s stature as a leading figure in the cyberpunk genre.

Since its launch in 2022, Lamina1 has attracted over 150,000 active addresses, signaling strong interest in decentralized content models. The platform enables creators to maintain IP ownership, define royalties, set licenses, and provide exclusive benefits to fans—all programmable on-chain.
Spaces: The First Product on Linea
Spaces is Lamina1’s first product on Linea, offering immersive, story-driven experiences where creators fully control the narrative and intellectual property. The initial project, Artefact, combines Stephenson’s vision with Weta Workshop development to deliver a rich, interactive role-playing world.
In Artefact, players explore a post-AI universe, joining factions, collecting data fragments, and shaping the story. Every action is recorded on-chain via Linea, giving participants verifiable influence over the narrative.

Linea brings serious technical muscle to the table. By the end of 2024, it had processed over 230 million transactions and partnered with more than 420 organizations.
