Nuvei has officially received the crypto-asset service provider licence under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR), positioning the company to deliver fully regulated crypto services across all EU member states.
This new licence allows Nuvei to offer a wide range of services—including cryptocurrency storage, administration, transfers, and exchanges into fiat or other assets—all integrated seamlessly into its global payments infrastructure. For merchants and platforms, this means the ability to deploy crypto-enabled payments and settlements across Europe with ease and compliance.

Why This Licence Matters
Nuvei CEO Phil Fayer emphasized the significance of MiCAR:
“This authorisation marks an important milestone in the convergence of payments and digital assets. MiCAR brings long-needed regulatory clarity to Europe. Operating under this framework allows us to help customers move value across crypto and traditional payment rails with confidence, consistency, and scale.”
With MiCAR authorisation, along with a Payment Institution licence for electronic money tokens (EMTs), Nuvei can now manage crypto, EMT, and fiat flows on a single, unified platform. This simplifies operations, reduces regulatory complexity, and accelerates settlement processes for businesses expanding across European markets.
Benefits for Businesses and Retail Users
For businesses, the licence enables efficient settlements, streamlined crypto acceptance, and transparent blockchain-based fund movement, all fully integrated into broader payment, payout, and treasury workflows. Retail users gain access to simple, compliant crypto services through a regulated European platform.
Nuvei’s platform offers faster, more transparent settlement options and compliant fiat-to-crypto and crypto-to-fiat flows, making cross-border transactions easier than ever.
Strategic Moves Strengthen European Presence
This comes after Nuvei began enabling its eCommerce merchants to process transactions via the European Payments Initiative (EPI) digital wallet, Wero, and integrated Visa Direct for Account, allowing businesses to transfer funds directly to consumer and worker bank accounts in eligible countries.
By combining regulated crypto services with advanced payments infrastructure, Nuvei is establishing itself as a go-to platform for businesses and consumers seeking secure, compliant, and scalable digital asset solutions across Europe.
This licence isn’t just a regulatory win—it’s a strategic gateway for Nuvei to dominate the EU crypto payments ecosystem.
