Houdini Launches Privacy Payment Tool for Freelancers

Houdini Swap is giving freelancers and crypto users a new way to get paid while keeping their wallet information private.

The platform now offers a payment service that generates shareable links, supporting over 4,000 digital assets across multiple blockchains.

When a payment is made, Houdini routes the transaction through its exchange system, converting incoming assets to the recipient’s chosen token and breaking the on-chain connection between sender and receiver. This means senders cannot see recipients’ balances, and recipients don’t expose their wallets.

Senders cover exchange fees, while recipients receive the full requested amount. Payment links are permanent but cannot be edited, and each link specifies a fixed payment amount rather than accepting variable sums.

The service operates centrally and compliantly, adhering to Anti-Money Laundering regulations and geoblocking rules. Houdini and partner platforms retain transaction metadata such as wallet addresses, asset types, and amounts. Flagged transactions may trigger additional AML checks.

CEO Joshua Rogers emphasizes that Houdini Pay is not a mixer. The platform never holds or accesses users’ crypto directly, offering compliant privacy infrastructure rather than cryptographic anonymity. Users who want full cryptographic privacy might prefer solutions like zkBob, which uses zero-knowledge proofs but only supports $ETH, USDT, and USDC.

Privacy is more than a convenience; it’s a necessity in real-world crypto use. Public wallet addresses reveal balances, transaction histories, and funding sources, creating risks for freelancers and businesses alike. Houdini highlights cases where freelancers received 50% pay cuts after clients checked wallet balances.

Competitors can also track supplier payments to replicate strategies.

Security concerns add urgency. Visible crypto assets can make holders targets of theft and violence. This year, incidents of kidnappings and physical attacks on known crypto holders have increased. French authorities even met with cryptocurrency professionals in May after a kidnapping attempt targeted an exchange executive’s family in Paris.

Houdini Swap’s tool provides a practical middle ground, giving users privacy and safety without sacrificing compliance or ease of payment.
